Regional Training Course on the Universal Periodic Review Concludes in Geneva.
The regional training course on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism concluded on Tuesday evening, 11 November 2025, at the headquarters of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs (GIHRHA).
Organized on the sidelines of the 50th session of the UPR and in conjunction with the discussion of Libya’s fourth periodic report, the five-day program took place at both the Geneva Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs and the United Nations Office at Geneva.
The training program covered a range of key themes, including:
- The fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review;
- The national mechanism for report preparation and follow-up on recommendations;
- Access to UPR-related information online.
Participants also had the opportunity to attend the discussion of Libya’s fourth periodic report before the UPR Working Group.
The course was delivered by a distinguished group of experts and trainers from the Geneva Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).


At the conclusion of the program, participants expressed their appreciation for the rich content and high level of interaction that characterized the sessions.
Mr. Waleed Al-Badi, Head of the Complaints Department at the Oman Human Rights Commission, described the regional course as “a knowledge-filled and inspiring experience, rich in interaction and human dialogue, delivered by an outstanding group of experienced experts who combined knowledge with thoughtful reflection. It was an unforgettable experience that left a lasting impression, and I encourage all those who are passionate about knowledge and human dignity to take part in such opportunities.”
Ms. Ahlam bint Nasser Al-Habsi, Head of Risk Management and Supervisor of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights portfolio at the Ministry of Economy of the Sultanate of Oman, stated that the course enabled her to gain “a deeper understanding of the UPR mechanism and the roles of government institutions, national human rights institutions, and civil society organizations in this process.” She added that “the interactive discussions with experts and participants from various sectors made this a highly enriching and inspiring learning experience.”
Ms. Mona Al-Salehiya also commended the high academic level and excellent organization of the course, noting that she acquired “practical skills and new knowledge about international standards and their implementation methods, which further motivated her to continue working in the field of human rights promotion and protection with a broader and deeper vision.”
The closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Nizar Abdelqader Saleh, Executive Director of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, H.E. Idris Al-Khenjari, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, and Mr. Abdulmouli Ramadan Antisha, Acting President of the National Council for Liberties and Human Rights in Libya, who together presented certificates of participation to the trainees.
