Regional Advanced Training Course on the Universal Periodic Review Mechanism Kicks Off in Geneva.
The Geneva Institute for Human Rights (GIHR) launched on Monday, 8 November 2025, the Regional Advanced Training Course on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism, held on the sidelines of the 50th session of the UPR and the discussion of Libya’s periodic report. The course will run for five days at the Institute’s headquarters and the United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland.
The training brings together participants from government institutions, national human rights institutions, and civil society organizations, and is conducted by a distinguished group of expert trainers.
The program of the regional course covers several key topics, including:
- The Human Rights Council and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism, with a special focus on the latest developments of its fourth cycle;
- The national mechanism for report preparation and follow-up on recommendations;
- Accessing and using UPR-related information online.
In addition, the program includes attendance at the discussion of Libya’s national report and meetings with experts from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
This regional training course is part of the Geneva Institute’s strategy and action plan to defend human rights, citizenship, and universal humanitarian values, and to promote human rights as a means to achieve positive change from within societies.
