Regional Consultations

Regional Consultations with UN Special Rapporteurs

Since 2004, our Institute has built outstanding expertise in designing and organizing regional consultations in close cooperation with United Nations office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Special Rapporteurs of the Human Rights Council and other UN human rights mechanisms.

With over two decades of experience, we are recognized for delivering high-quality, inclusive, and impactful consultation processes that meaningfully contribute to international human rights dialogue and policy development.

To ensure a fully participatory and inclusive approach, particular attention is given to the meaningful involvement of specific groups, whose perspectives are often underrepresented in policy discussions. This approach strengthens both the legitimacy and the quality of the outcomes.

Objectives of the Regional Consultations

The consultations are designed to support the integration of human rights into development policy and practice. Their core objectives are to:

  • Share good practices and experiences in the design and implementation of human development policies and programmes that advance the realisation of human rights;
  • Exchange methodologies for monitoring and assessing the structures, processes, and outcomes of development policies and programmes;
  • Identify recurring obstacles and challenges to the effective implementation of human rights–based approaches in development work, while also highlighting successful and innovative solutions to overcome these challenges.
  • Collaboration with UN Human Rights Mandate Holders

GIHR has had the privilege of organizing regional consultations in support of the following UN mandates:

Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls

  2004, 2013, 2023

Working Group on discrimination against women and girls

  2013

Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities

  2024

These collaborations reflect our sustained commitment to advancing human rights through inclusive dialogue, evidence-based analysis, and practical policy recommendatios.
