Goal : Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
Injustice, human rights violations and high levels of armed conflict still persist, threatening the very essence of democratic societies, stagnating nations development, as well as affecting economic growth globally.
According to UN estimates, approximately 100 civilians are killed daily due to armed conflicts, despite the protections stipulated by international law. Moreover, the global homicide rate has declined slowly from 5.9 per 100,000 population in 2015 to 5.8 per 100,000 population in 2019, translating to 440,000 homicides victims worldwide.
Hence, to ensure a sustained level of peace, security and prosperity, it is necessary for governments, civil society and communities to work together in developing solutions to the reduction of violence, combating corruption and ensuring inclusive participation at all times.
The 12 targets to create action to promote peace, justice and strong Institutions, are as follows:
Reduce violence everywhere
Protect children from abuse, exploitation, trafficking and violence
Promote the rule of law and ensure equal access to justice
