On Wednesday afternoon, the Executive Director of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights, Nazar Abdelgadir, met with His Excellency Ambassador Muhammed Lawal Sulaiman (Nigeria), Vice-Chairman of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the delegation to the 51st session of the Human Rights Council, which included: Ambassador Mahmoud Mostafa Afifi (Egypt) and Ambassador Seyed Hossein Rezvani (Iran), as well as the Executive Director of the Commission's Secretariat (Pakistan), and the responsible for research and thematic discussions at the Commission, Mr. Hafeez Al-Hashimi.
The meeting addressed ways of future joint cooperation between the Institute and the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission.
It should be noted that the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission is an expert advisory body founded by the OIC as a core body that operates independently in the field of human rights. The Commission officially launched with the adoption of its statute at the thirty-eighth session of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 28-30 June 2011, as a fully operational human rights mechanism to pursue its multidimensional goals and mandates.
