GIHR continues to cooperate with institutions concerned with law enforcement & human rights

The Geneva Institute for Human Rights continues in its path of cooperation with institutions concerned with law enforcement and human rights through the signing and implementation of a number of memorandums of joint cooperation.

Within that context, on the 4th of August 2021, the Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the General Ombudsman for Sudan (Public Grievances Chamber) highlighting the fundamental principles of cooperation between the two institutions in the domain of human rights training, with the aim of raising the capacity of members of the Office in the field so that they can ensure the reflection of respect and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the work of the Ombudsman.

This joint cooperation is seen as crucial as it contributes to Sudan’s peaceful and successful transition to democracy. Dr. Ihsan Babikir Hussein - Acting President of the Public Grievance Board, stressed on the importance of this cooperation, describing it as necessary to build institutions of justice and governance founded on the principles of human rights and rule of law.

On the other hand, the Country Director (Sudan) of the Institute, Mr. Adel Sharif Ahmed, added that the Institute is always willing and prepared to work towards raising the capabilities of those in law enforcement and that the Institute has extensive experience in this domain as it has already implemented a number of training projects with various justice and human rights institutions in Sudan.

Finally, the Executive Director of the Institute, Mr. Nazar Abdelgadir, expressed his welcome to cooperate with the Public Grievances Chamber to raise the capabilities of its officers, particularly as the Institute has opened an office in Khartoum, reaffirming the Institute's commitment towards human rights issues in the country.
