In this context, we reiterate that the rights of Palestinian women are neither a privilege nor a concession; they are inherent and indivisible rights, guaranteed by the norms of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, and protected by the principles of human dignity, equality, and non-discrimination.

On this occasion, we honor the struggles of Palestinian women and young women, as well as their contributions to protecting their families, maintaining the cohesion of their communities, and preserving their social fabric. We also recognize their legitimate commitment to defending their own rights—as well as the rights of their people—despite the cumulative challenges and the harsh, complex humanitarian, economic, and social conditions they have faced for many years. These circumstances have been imposed by the reality of a prolonged occupation and its persistent violations, which have inflicted profound trauma and unjustifiable suffering, directly impacting the lives, rights, security, and human dignity of these women.

Under these circumstances, the challenges faced by Palestinian women intensify, taking on even harsher dimensions amidst humanitarian crises, the repercussions of displacement and forced expulsion, and the loss of family members—or, as has frequently occurred during the genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, the loss of an entire family. Furthermore, there is a diminished capacity to access water, food, healthcare, education, freedom of movement, personal security, and other fundamental rights and essential services.

The deteriorating economic and social conditions impose additional burdens on Palestinian women, limiting their employment opportunities and economic independence, while compounding their responsibilities within the family and society. This is particularly true for women who bear the responsibility of supporting their families under extremely difficult conditions, which increases their vulnerability to poverty, marginalization, violence, and exploitation, and restricts their access to protection, resources, and opportunities—preventing them from enjoying the same standing as women elsewhere in the world.

The Geneva Institute for Human Rights asserts that protecting the rights of Palestinian women, young women, and girls from all forms of violence, discrimination, and exploitation is not merely an option, but a legal and moral obligation incumbent upon all parties to international agreements and other relevant stakeholders. This protection is an integral component of upholding human rights and international charters. Ensuring the safety and dignity of these women and girls requires adherence to international human rights law and international humanitarian law, the protection of civilians from the impacts of conflict, and the guarantee of unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to reach those in need. It also emphasizes the importance of ensuring that women and girls have access to health and educational services, and are protected from all forms of violence and discrimination—including sexual exploitation and abuse. Furthermore, it stresses the need for effective and safe avenues to uphold their fundamental rights, including access to justice and remedies under all circumstances.

Palestinian women are not merely recipients of humanitarian aid; they are rights-holders with a voice and a vital role in society. Therefore, any response to their needs or discussion regarding their current situation must be anchored in a key element: their active participation in decision-making, peacebuilding, reconstruction, and the pursuit of justice.

On this occasion, the Geneva Institute for Human Rights reiterates its call to intensify international efforts to protect the rights of Palestinian women, girls, and young women. This includes addressing their humanitarian needs, implementing preventive measures and protection protocols, exercising due diligence, establishing safe mechanisms and channels for reporting and referrals, ensuring survivors have access to health, social, psychological, and legal services, holding perpetrators of violations accountable, and enhancing access to justice and remedies.

Respecting Palestinian women goes beyond simply acknowledging their resilience in the face of adversity; it begins with guaranteeing their rights and protecting them from violations. We affirm that justice for Palestinian women cannot be achieved without accountability and an end to the policy of impunity. Today, the Institute stands with international voices calling for the activation of mechanisms for international justice and accountability; for holding perpetrators of crimes and violations against women and children in Palestine to account; for ensuring redress for victims and reparation for harm; and for ending impunity.

On the occasion of the National Day of Palestinian Women, we reaffirm our solidarity with every woman, young woman, and girl—including those who have survived violence and violations—and we pledge our commitment to fostering an environment that respects women’s dignity, protects their rights, and ensures their full and equal participation.

We stand in full solidarity with Palestinian women. On this day, we affirm that women’s rights are human rights; that protecting these rights is a collective responsibility; that empowering women is a fundamental entitlement; and that securing justice for them is a moral imperative.

Geneva Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs.

October 26, 2026 On October 26—Palestinian Women’s Day—the Geneva Institute for Human Rights extends its profound respect and deep solidarity to Palestinian women and young women, in recognition of their steadfastness and ongoing struggles for freedom, dignity, and justice. We affirm that the struggle of Palestinian women for their rights, freedom, and dignity is not merely
[26

post-4707","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-human-rights-news
["GET
