Rather, it is a reality that shapes the lives of millions, depriving many of access to basic necessities such as food, housing, education, healthcare, and decent work.

Despite efforts to reduce poverty, many families continue to face daily struggles in meeting their needs, exacerbated by rising costs of living, shrinking employment opportunities, and conflicts and crises that increase the vulnerability of societies. The most vulnerable groups—including children, women, persons with disabilities, and the elderly—often bear the heaviest burden, frequently encountering additional barriers that prevent them from exercising their fundamental rights.

The Geneva Institute for Human Rights emphasizes that eradicating poverty cannot be achieved through temporary aid alone. It requires addressing the root causes of poverty, creating decent employment opportunities, ensuring access to education, healthcare, and social protection, and promoting equal opportunity—thereby enabling every individual to live with dignity and security. Furthermore, the participation of those living in poverty in the decisions and policies that affect their lives is essential to ensuring that solutions are equitable and truly responsive to their needs.

Poverty is not an inevitable fate; nor should it ever be a reason to deprive individuals of their rights or diminish their prospects for building a better future.
