The Institute stresses that remembering them must be an opportunity to recognize their suffering and ensure that they receive the support and justice they deserve.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This occasion comes at a time when terrorist threats continue in different parts of the world, causing loss of life, fear, displacement, and insecurity. In addressing these challenges, protecting civilians, respecting human rights, and upholding the rule of law remain essential to combating terrorism and limiting its impact.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Institute emphasizes that combating terrorism and protecting human rights are closely connected, and that counter-terrorism efforts must not come at the expense of fundamental rights and freedoms. It also stresses the importance of ensuring victims\u2019 and survivors\u2019 rights to justice, reparations, and psychological and social support.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On this occasion, the Institute calls on governments and the international community to strengthen efforts to prevent terrorism, protect civilians, ensure access to justice and redress for victims, and provide the necessary support to survivors and their families, in accordance with international human rights law.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Geneva Institute for Human Rights honors the memory of all victims of terrorism and expresses its solidarity with survivors and their families.
