GIHR has recently held a human rights training course entitled “The United Nations Mechanisms in the field of Human Rights” during the period of 6-16 June, 2010. The participants included 9 nationals of Saudi Arabia and 2 nationals of Bahrain, representing civil society NGOs, journalists, writers and teachers. The subject matter of the course included an introduction to the mechanisms of human rights at the UN as well as the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Trainings and workshops

25-29 January 2010- GIHR organized an advanced training course on the the role of the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women addressing participants from Syria, Egypt Tunisia and Morocco.
In conjunction with training, GIHR has also delivered capacity building and advocacy services to 5 members of the Syrian Ministry of Family affairs, in order to strenghten their capacity to effectively protect the rights of individuals with a special focus on women and children.

Training courses of this kind are provided by a number of international non-governmental and governmental organizations. However, they are often conducted in English or French.

Mercenaries: UN experts say that the Nissour Square killings in Iraq should not remain unpunished

The United Nations Working Group on the use of mercenaries* calls on the United States and the Iraqi Governments to cooperate to ensure that the Nissour Square incident is fully remedied and, in relation to the crimes that may have been committed, those responsible fully held accountable as appropriate.
