UN violence against women expert on first visit to Jordan

Jordan has allowed a UN Human Rights Council independent expert on violence against women to visit the country for the first time, receiving Special Rapporteur Rashida Manjoo from November 11-23, 2011.

Manjoo is holding meetings with government authorities and representatives of civil society in Amman, then visiting shelters, refugee camps and detention centers, and meet with individual victims of gender-based violence.

She is set tol hold a press conference on her initial findings at the Amman Marriott Hotel (Shmeissani Issam Ajluni Street, Amman) at noon on Wednesday, November 23. Manjoo will also present a report with her final findings and recommendations to a forthcoming session of the Human Rights Council.
