Sudan: Geneva Institute educates Sudanese university students

The Geneva Institute for Human Rights (GIHR) organized a training program in coordination with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Khartoum on August 2 and 3 to educate university students about human rights mechanisms.

Approximately 20 students participated in the course, which gave an overview of the concepts and terminology of human rights, international laws protecting human rights, contractual and non-contractual mechanisms for implementing those laws, and the United Nations bodies tasked with human rights issues. Students also viewed a film explaining the methods and role of the United Nations and other international treaty monitoring bodies.

The Geneva Institute for Human Rights is focusing its training programs in 2011 on young people, particularly students in colleges and universities. It arranged for courses in Egypt last month and in Morocco earlier this year.
