From July 10 to 21, the Geneva Institute for Human Rights Geneva (GIHR) held training courses in international human rights mechanisms for Egyptian students of universities and institutes of higher education.
The first session was held in Cairo between July 10 and 14, in partnership with the Institute for Arab Research and Studies. The second four-day session took place in Beni Suef.
About 20 students of various disciplines participated in each course, which covered the concepts and terminology of human rights, international humanitarian and human rights law, United Nations organs, human rights conventions, contractual and non-contractual tools, and the International Criminal Court.
Workshops in the training program discussed the role university students could play in building a culture of respect for human rights and international humanitarian law. Students also examined founding human rights conventions and screened "Suspended," the GIHR's first film production, which addresses sexual violence against women.
Qualified young people, many of them graduates of the sessions of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights, supervised the training program.
