Geneva Institute for Human Rights

GIHR has recently held a human rights training course entitled “The United Nations Mechanisms in the field of Human Rights” during the period of 6-16 June, 2010. The participants included 9 nationals of Saudi Arabia and 2 nationals of Bahrain, representing civil society NGOs, journalists, writers and teachers. The subject matter of the course included an introduction to the mechanisms of human rights at the UN as well as the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The participants had the opportunity to meet with several experts in the various committees, specifically, the Committee on the Rights of the Child, officials from the Office of the High Commissioner, and various NGOs. Moreover, the course coincided with the 14th session of the Human Rights Council, during which the participants were able to attend the session concerning the adoption of the UPR Working Group’s report on Egypt.
